Using a spray gun can be confusing.  The key is starting with the right paint.  The thickness of the paint (called viscosity) is very important and will be mentioned in the user manual for your spray gun. Here’s a video on how to mix paint so you have the right viscosity for your spray paint gun.

There are a few things you need to ensure you have the right viscosity for your paint:

  1. Viscosity cup to measure the flow of the paint through a standard size hole
  2. Clock to time how long it takes the paint to empty the viscosity cup
  3. Liquid to thin the paint
  4. Stir stick to mix the paint well

Learning the process of mixing paint to the right viscosity takes some practice.  The first time I did this, it took me almost 40 minutes to get it right.  I’ve now mixed paint dozens of times and I can usually get it right in 5-10 minutes.
